AUGUSTA, Ga. – The Augusta University Softball team dropped a series to No. 2 North Georgia. After inclement weather forced the games to be shifted, the Jaguars fell 11-5 in a single game Monday before dropping games 2 and 3 on Tuesday.
The Jaguars are now 13-14 on the season, 0-9 in conference play
In game one,
Bailee Roberts opened scoring with a double to left field that scored
Lauren Slade in the first inning. North Georgia would jump out to 9-1 lead before
Lauren Evens hit a grand slam in the 6
th inning that capped Augusta scoring for the day.
Ansley Gibson started on the mound for AU, lasting 6.2 innings giving up 11 runs and seven hits.
Hannah Turner would finish the game.
Roberts was 2-for-4 with 1 RBI to lead Augusta in the contest.
In the second game of the series, the Jags were unable to cool the hot bats of the Nighthawks. The visiting team collected 12 hits to Augusta's 3.
Paige Patterson hit a solo homer in the fourth inning for the Jags' only score of the day.
Alissa Bolinger (6-7) started the game for AU, hurling 2.0 innings, allowing 4 hits for 5 runs.
Maggie McBrayer, and
Hannah Turner each came in to pitch in relief.
In the third and final game of the series, both teams were scoreless until a double from the Nighthawks in the third inning scored a single run.
Sophie Baker drove a solo homer over the fence to even the score at 1-1 in the bottom of the third inning, carding Augusta's only score of the game.
The Nighthawks used a 12-run sixth inning to cement the 17-1 victory.
Gibson (7-7) tossed 5.0 innings, striking out five batters and allowing nine hits. Turner replaced her for 1.0 inning before
Maggie McBrayer closed the game.
The Jaguars return to action on Saturday, March 18 at home for a doubleheader against Columbus State starting at 1 p.m. Live stats and video will be available at augustajags.com
