Jaguar Baseball Grabs 8-3 Road Win at Erskine

DUE WEST, S.C. – The Augusta University baseball team captured an 8-3 win against Erskine in a nonconference road game Tuesday afternoon.

The Jaguars are now 19-18 on the season while Erskine moves to 22-15.

Head coach Chris Howell's team opened scoring with three runs in the third inning. J. Ben Hanes opened the inning with a single to left field. After a fly out to left field, Haynes promptly sole second and was knocked in on a single through the left side by Kyle Lodise. Lodise scored when Harrison Aulds homered to center field for a 3-0 lead.

The Flying Fleet would add single runs in the bottom of the third and fourth innings.

The Jaguars made it 6-2 in the fifth frame. Both Ayala and Lodise hit singles and stole second to open the inning. A double from Pat Galvin plated both and forced an Erskine pitching change. A double from Mike Morrison scored Galvin and closed scoring in the inning with a 6-2 AU advantage.

Augusta stretched the lead of a 2 RBI homer from Parker Ingram in the eighth inning.

Erskine would tack on a single run off a homer in the bottom of the ninth, but the Jags won 8-3.

For the game, Lodie was 2-for-4 with 1 RBI and 2 runs. Galvin went 2-for-5 with 2 RBI and 1 run. Morrison went 2-for-4 with 1 run and 1 RBI while four other Jaguars carded hits in the contest.

On the mound, JR Fordham earned his fourth win of the season. After Dominic Canale tossed the first 4 innings, Fordham only allowed one hit for no runs in his 2.0 innings of work. Brian Trepanier closed the final 3 innings of the game, allowing 5 hits and striking out 2 batters while earning his first save of the year.

The Jaguars have a short turnaround, traveling to play Anderson on Wednesday April 12 for a 4:00pm contest. Live stats and video are available at augustajags.com
