AMERICUS, Ga - The Augusta University baseball team wrapped the 2023 baseball season in the PBC Tournament. After a comeback win to defeat Georgia College in the second game, Augusta fell 11-10 to Columbus State. The Jaguars close the season 26-24 overall, marking the team's best finish since 2016.
Georgia College opened scoring for the fame with a scoring single in the second inning before a 3 RBI double gave the Bobcats a 4-0 advantage. Georgia College would add another two scores in the sixth inning before Augusta mounted a furious comeback in the bottom of the seventh inning.
Mike Morrison got the Jags started with a solo bomb to center field. Augusta would bat through the order in the huge inning. After a double from Charlie Erickson in the second at bat of the inning, a single from
Koby Ayala plated to runs.
After a single from freshman of the year
Kyle Lodise, a sac fly from
Pat Galvin scored Ayala and forced a Georgia College pitching change. Following another single from Aulds,
Jordan Wilkie knocked shot down the left field line to push the score to 5-6. Morrison singled through right field to even the score at 6-6. Erickson was then hit by pitch with the bases loaded for the first Augusta lead of the day. After another Bobcats pitching change, Ayala singled for two additional runs before Augusta added a tenth run off a wild pitch to close scoring for the inning.
In the top pf the ninth inning, Georgia College tacked on two runs, but Augusta would hang on for the lead and advance to the third game of the Peach Belt Tournament.
Koby Ayala was 3-for-4 with 4 RBI and 1 run to lead Augusta. Lodise, Galvin Aulds, and Morrison each had multiple hits for AU. Â
Cody Shieder got the win for Augusta, pitching 1.0 inning, allowing two hits for no runs.
Logan Howell got the start on mound.
Will Cantrell,
Turner Sircy,
JR Fordham, and
Jasper Dubberly all saw time out of the bullpen.

After winning the first game of the day to Georgia College, Augusta immediately took on Columbus State in the double elimination tournament.

Augusta used a huge fourth inning to jump out to a 7-0. A 2 RBI single from
Koby Ayala got the team started before a sac fly from All-Conference performer
Pat Galvin out Augusta ahead 3-0.
After a bases loaded walk, AU capitalized on an error for a 5-0 lead in the inning.
Mike Morrison would close the scoring run with a 2 RBI single up the middle that plated
Jordan Wilkie and
Harrison Aulds.

Columbus State used steady offense to narrow the lad through the sixth inning before cording five runs in the seventh inning for an 11-7 lead.
AU would not go quietly, using a double from All-Conference
Harrison Aulds to plate two runs and force a Cougar pitching switch. Aulds and Galvin would reach home on a throwing error, cutting the lead but Augusta would fall to Columbus State 11-10.

Brian Trepanier started the game for Augusta, pitching 4.2 inning while allowing five hits for four runs while striking out four batters.
