Box Score 2 AIKEN, SC. – The Augusta University volleyball team posted a pair of victories Friday at the USC Aiken invitational, downing both North Greenville and Carson-Newman 3-0.
The Jaguars are now 3-3 on the season.
In the opener, set scores were 25-19, 25-12, 25-17.
Head Coach
Sharon Quarles' squad was led by
Sophia Kruczko's team-best 10 kills to go along with three blocks.
Kayli Cleaver added eight kills. Jazmyn Wheeler chipped in 6 kills and eight digs to go along with two blocks and four assists.
Abigail Breeden dished out 15 assists while Javier Buggs collected 11 assists. Both setters registered six digs in the contest.
Dariana Luna and Wheeler anchored the defense with eight digs apiece.
After jumping out to an early 11-7 lead in the first se, Augusta would utilize two kills and an ace to extend the lead to 15-7. The Crusaders would cut the lead to 21-19 before kills from
Jada Suguturaga and
Sophia Kruczko sealed the first set for AU.
The second stanza proved tighter until Augusta exploded on a 7-0 to take a commanding 23-11 lead. The Jags would take set two, registering an impressive .323 hitting percentage. AU wouldn't look back in set 3, taking a commanding 18-8 lead before closing the match on a kill from
Madelyn Eden.
In the second match of the day, Augusta took another commanding 3-0 sweep from Carson-Newman.
In the first set, Augusta turned in 12 kills with just one error to take the set 25-15. AU would cruise to 25-22 and 25-17 victories in set 2.
Wheeler led Augusta with 12 kills while Zruczko added 8. Defensively, Eden and Wheeler both had 2 blocks.
Dariana Luna led with 16 digs.
