Women's Basketball Snags Road Win From Georgia College Behind Alford's Season-High 25 Points

MILLEDGEVILLE, GA- The Augusta women's basketball team defeated Georgia College, 76-67, to improve to 7-2 in conference play on Wednesday night. AU is now 13-6 overall. Georgia College moves to 9-10, 3-6 inside conference play. Augusta will host Columbus State on Saturday, Feb. 3 for the annual Cancer Awareness Game. Tipoff is set for 1:30 p.m.

It was tight throughout the first quarter. Yamani Paul nailed a three-pointer to end the quarter with a 20-15 Augusta lead.  

The second quarter proved to be a lot like the first with the Jaguars' Tomiyah Alford making a layup with only eight seconds left in the half to give AU a 36-32 advantage heading into the locker room at halftime.  

Augusta started the third quarter the right way, extending their lead to nine. Georgia College came roaring back to take the lead from the Jaguars with 2:45 left in the third quarter. AU recovered and held onto a 52-48 lead.  

The two teams battled in the fourth quarter, but a late layup by Kennedi Manning extended the Jaguars' lead to five and they finished off another win.  

Augusta was led by Tomiyah Alford who had her second straight 20-plus point performance with 25 points on 11-18 from the field. She was followed by Manning who had 17 and Kalen Surles with 13 points on 5-5 shooting.  

Manning led the Jaguars with nine rebounds.  

Hannah Cail led Georgia College in points with 18.
