Augusta drops see-saw affair in exhibition game against Emory

AUGUSTA, GA. - In what turned out to be a see-saw affair, Augusta University came up short to Emory University 81-76 on Saturday Nov. 2 at Christenberry Fieldhouse.

The Jaguars were led by Demitri Gardner's 32 points and nine rebounds with John St. Germain III adding 18 points and Maximillian Amadasun 14 points.

The two teams were tied at 37 at the half and then it was a back-and-forth battle in the final 20 minutes. Augusta took their first lead of the half on a basket by Germain with 14:31 to play. They would build the lead to seven points with just under five minutes to play. But the Eagles would outscore the Jags down the stretch and would surge ahead 75-74 on a three point play with 2:25 left. Gardner hit a jumper with just under a minute left to make it a one point game but Emory would score the last four points for the win.

The first half of the game the Jaguars fell behind 16-9 lead at the 11 minute mark, but would fight back behind back-to-back Amadasun baskets ane eventually go into the locker room deadlocked.

After hitting on 50% of their shots in the first half, Augusta connected on 45% in second half as the Eagles would light it up from the field shooting 62%. The Jaguars did dominate the glass out rebounding the Eagles 41-25.

Augusta now opens the regular season in the 45 Second Classic Nov. 8-9 in Wilson North Carolina. They will take on Mt. Olive on Friday and Barton College on Saturday.
