Box Score Augusta, GA – The Augusta University volleyball team (16-5, 3-3 PBC) secured a 3-1 victory over the UNC Pembroke Braves (11-17, 8-7 Conference Carolinas) on Thursday night. The Jaguars claimed the match with set scores of 16-25, 25-21, 25-17, and 25-15.
Match Highlights:
- After dropping the first set 16-25, Augusta regrouped and turned the momentum in their favor in the second set. A strong service run by Janvier Buggs, including by two consecutive aces, helped the Jaguars build a 15-11 lead. Layne Witherspoon's timely kills and steady blocking from Jada Suguturaga and Madelyn Eden helped close the set at 25-21.
- In the third set, Augusta continued their aggressive play. A crucial block by Witherspoon and Suguturaga extended their lead to 18-13. Mikayla Kline's back-to-back kills pushed the score to 23-16 before Eden secured the set with a decisive kill, ending it at 25-17.
- The fourth set saw Augusta maintain control from the start. The Jags jumped out to a10-5 advantage early on. the brink of victory. The set concluded with a solid attack by Marin Freeland, sealing the win at 25-15.
Next Match: Augusta travels to Milledgeville, Georgia on Saturday to take on Georgia College in Peach Belt Conference play at 2 p.m.
