Career-highs from Gardner and Amadasun propel Augusta over Chowan in overtime

Demitri Gardner erupted for a career-best 38 points, while Max Amadasun dominated inside with 31 points and 13 rebounds, also a career-high.

Murfreesboro, NC – Career-high performances from Demitri Gardner and Maximillian Amadasun propelled the Augusta men's basketball team to a thrilling 105-99 overtime victory over Chowan University on Sunday afternoon at Hawks Athletic Center. Gardner erupted for a career-best 38 points, while Amadasun dominated inside with 31 points and 13 rebounds, also a career-high. The Jaguars improved to 3-4 with the win, while Chowan dropped to 3-4.

The Jaguars found themselves trailing by 12 points with less than 10 minutes remaining in regulation, but Gardner and Amadasun spearheaded a comeback for the ages. Gardner scored 10 points in the final stretch of the second half, including crucial free throws to tie the game at 85 with 27 seconds left. Amadasun provided a defensive anchor, grabbing key rebounds and adding critical baskets to keep Augusta within striking distance.

In overtime, the dynamic duo continued their dominance. Gardner and Amadasun combined for 12 of Augusta's 20 points in the extra period, with Gardner hitting a decisive layup in the final minute and Amadasun securing the win with clutch free throws. Gardner finished the game shooting 12-23 from the field and 12-13 from the line, while Amadasun was nearly unstoppable inside, going 13-18 from the floor and 5-6 from the stripe.

John St. Germain III was instrumental in the victory, adding 17 points, eight assists, and three steals. His fast-break layup in overtime helped the Jaguars build momentum. Chaevon Torrance also contributed with a key steal and layup in the extra period, finishing with six points and four steals on the night.

Augusta outscored Chowan 60-36 in the paint and connected on 23 of 27 free throws to seal the win.
