AUGUSTA., Ga - After winning game one of the opening PBC series on Friday against Lander, the Augusta University softball team lost both games of Saturday's doubleheader, losing the first game 9-5 and game two 7-5.
Game One
Lander got out to an early 5-0 lead with an RBI double by Abbie Behe and homers by Raquel Camuglia, Logan Coward and Kenley Powell in the top of the first inning.
Bailee Roberts answered with a two-run homer, cutting the Bearcats lead to 5-2 in the bottom of the first inning.
The Bearcats added two more runs in the top of the third after a single by Camuglia and she scored on a wild pitch.
Hayden Pearson scored after error by the shortstop, but the Jaguars left two runners on base down 7-3 in the bottom of the third.
Emily Allen added the final two runs for Lander with an RBI double in the top of the seventh.
Bailee Roberts hit a two-RBI double, but the Jaguars would strand two on base and lose game one 9-5.
Bailee Roberts was the offensive highlight for AU, going 3-for-4 with 1 run and 4 RB, including a double and a home run.
Hannah Turner got the loss on the mound for the Jaguars, giving up five runs off four hits in the first inning.
Madalyn Spinks pitched 6.2 innings, giving up seven hits and four runs and striking out two batters.
Game Two
The Jaguars began game two with
Bobbi Poff and
Lauren Evens scoring two unearned runs after errors in the infield by the Bearcats in the bottom of the first inning. Lander added their first run of the game after a RBI single from Raquel Camuglia. The Bearcats took a 3-2 lead with a RBI double by Logan Coward in the top of the third inning.
Hayden Pearson hit a three-RBI double to push Augusta back ahead 5-3 in the bottom of the fourth inning. Logan Coward helped the Bearcats take a 6-5 lead after hitting a two-run homer in the top of the fifth. Pinch hitter Gracyn Millsaps extended the Bearcats after another homer in the fifth inning to make the score 7-5.
Bobbi Poff was 2-for-3 for two hits while
Hayden Pearson drove in three off two hits.
Alissa Bolinger started game two on the mound for Augusta, giving up seven runs off eight hits and striking out three batters.
Madalyn Spinks pitched in relief, striking out two and only giving up one hit.
Taylor Scott earned the win for Lander, striking out five batters and giving up five runs. Bailey Pattinson earned the save closing in the seventh inning.
The Jaguars next games will be a doubleheader against Emmanuel University on Tuesday, Feb. 27. Game one will be a 3 p.m., followed by game two at 5 p.m.
