AUGUSTA, GA– The Augusta University softball team fell to the visiting Francis Marion Patriots. Despite hitting four home runs in the game, Augusta would drop the contest 14-10.
Augusta returns to the field on Saturday, Feb. 10 when they travel to Murfreesboro, N.C. to take on Chowan in non-conference action.
GAME 1 – Augusta 10 Francis Marion 14
- The Jaguars hit four home runs in the contest
- After FMU opened scoring with a run in the top of the first inning, Paige Patterson and Candace Winder both hit 2 RBI bombs over the fence for a 4-1 first-inning lead.
- The Patriots answered with a one-run home run and a three-score double to snatch back the lead in the top of the third inning.
- Again, AU reclaimed the lead with a two-run homer from Bailee Roberts.
- The Patriots evened the score off a single in the fifth inning before a huge five-run sixth inning gave them the advantage.
- Neveah Ross hit a 1 RBI homer in the bottom of the sixth, but AU couldn't stop the hot bats of the visiting team A single from Shelbie Summerlin in the final inning tacked on a single run, but the Jags would fall 10-14.
- The second game of the day was canceled due to rain.
- Paige Patterson, Bailee Roberts, and Cadence Winde each turned in two hits for 2 RBI.
- Naveah Ross was 1-for-3 with 3 RBI and 1 run
- Alissa Bolinger started on the mound for AU, pitching 4.2 innings, allowing eight hits, and striking out six batters. Madelyn Spinks (1-1) the the final 2.1 innings, allowing six hits.
