DAHLONEGA, GA – The Augusta University softball team dropped a PBC doubleheader to the top team in the nation, No. 1 North Georgia. To wrap the weather-affected series, the Jags will take on the Nighthawks in a single game on Monday, March 11 at noon.
In the first game of the day, AU only saw hits from
Bailee Roberts and
Hayden Pearson. North Georgia used steady offense to card 12 runs in the five-inning game.
Freshman
Madalyn Spinks (4-3) got the start and pitched 2.2 innings. Alissa Blinger tossed the final 1.1 innings.
In the second game of the day, a late Jaguar comeback fell short and AU would fall 10-5 to the defending national champions. Home runs by
Paige Patterson and
Bobbi Poff gave AU an early 2-0 lead. The home team took a 3-2 lead in the bottom of the first, capitalizing on Augusta's errors. In the fourth inning, Patterson again answered the call, hitting a bomb over the center field wall to even the score at 3-3.
North Georgia would score seven runs over the next two innings. A double from
Lauren Slade to center field plated Poff and
Aliyah Luke, but the Jags would fall to the defending national champions.
Patterson was 3-for-3 with 2 runs and two RBI to lead the Jaguars. Poff was 2-for-4 with 1 RBI and 2 runs.
Ansley Gibson pitched the first 4.1 innings, allowing seven hits while striking out two batters.
Alissa Bolinger (3-6) finished out the game on the mound
