ST. AUGUSTINE, FL — The Augusta University softball team split a doubleheader against Flagler on the road to start its final regular-season series. Augusta fell 7-6 in the first game of the afternoon before winning the second game 1-0. The Jaguars are now assured a PBC Tournament berth. The 2024 PBC Softball Tournament is from April 26 to May 4.
In the first game of the day,
Cadance Winder started off scoring in the first inning with a double that plated a single run. After a single from
Lauren Barrett in the same inning, AU capitalized on an error from the home team, pushing the score to 3-0.
A Flagler Grand Slam put the home team back on top 4-3.
In the third inning, Winder again answered the call with a double down the right field line that evened the score.
Lauren Evens then grounded out to second base for a score before an error gave AU its sixth and final run. Flager used two home runs at the bottom of the third to seal the victory.
Winder was 2-for-4 with 2 RBI and two runs to lead Augusta offensively.
Madalyn Spinks started on the mound, allowing six hits for five runs.
Ansley Gibson n (5-7) pitched the final 4.0 innings, allowing five hits for two runs while striking out four batters.
In the second game of the day, AU tallied eight hits to Flagler's two. Naveah Ross homered in the fifth inning for the only score of the game.
Grace Bridges went 3-for-4 while Ross carded the only RBI of the fame.
Senior
Alissa Bolinger (5-7) pitched all seven innings, only allowing two hits and striking out two batters.
