AUGUSTA, Ga. — The Augusta University men's golf team recorded a top-five finish at the Augusta Haskins Award Invitational at Forest Hills Golf Club. Augusta hosted the 44th installment of the tournament, played on the par 72, 7,086-yard Forest Hills Golf Course. The Jaguars finished in fifth place with a team score of 867 (-7) behind the sensational play of
Ryan van der Klis.
RESULTS
Seven teams finished under par for the weekend, led by No. 1 North Carolina, which claimed the team title at 843 (-21). No. 18 Texas (849) and No. 32 Oklahoma State (851) finished just ahead of Illinois (856) and host Augusta (857) to round out the top five. No. 14 Oklahoma and No. 19 East Tennessee State were one shot off the Jaguars' pace in a tie for sixth at 858.
Ryan van der Klis, who entered the day tied for 10
th, fired a 4-under 68 in the final round to jump seven spots and finish tied for third overall. Van der Klis used five birdies in his final 18 holes to lead the charge for the host Jaguars.
Stefan Jacobs and
Cole Stevens both finished tied for 25
th (+1) after three rounds of play. Jacobs carded a 75 in his final round while Stevens added two strokes to his round two score, carding a 1-over 73 for the day.
Dean Wilken made big moves, shaving four strokes off his second-round score to turn in an even-par 72 and finish tied for 30
th (+2).
Dawson Booth shot identical 74s in Round 2 and 3 to finish tied for 37
th.
Playing as an individual,
Josh Koekemoer also saw huge gains, firing a 71 in the final round to finish tied for 52
nd.
