Augusta rings in 2025 with 67-56 victory over Emmanuel, improves to 9-2

AUGUSTA, GA – The Augusta women's basketball team kicked off 2025 with a 67-56 win over Emmanuel University on Wednesday evening. With the victory, Augusta improves to 9-2. AU returns to Peach Belt Conference action Saturday at home against Columbus State at 1:30pm. The game will also serve as Youth Day - all fans under 18 years old will receive FREE ADMISSION.

The Jaguars had a balanced effort in their first game of 2025, with contributions across the lineup. Augusta trailed 15-14 at the end of the first quarter but used a 20-point second quarter to take a 34-23 halftime lead. In the third quarter, Emmanuel cut into the lead with a 20-point performance, but Augusta's defense held strong in the fourth, outscoring the Lions 14-13 to secure the win.

Key Performers for Augusta:
Yamani Paul led the Jaguars with 12 points, adding a rebound and a steal. Quinasia Abercrombie chipped in 9 points and 2 rebounds, including a crucial three-pointer in the second half. Autumn Phillips contributed 9 points, 2 rebounds, and 2 steals, while Tyasia Freeman added 7 points and 5 rebounds. Elyse Autrey provided a spark off the bench with 11 points, 1 rebound, and 4 assists. Sierra Burns rounded out the balanced effort with 8 points, 2 rebounds, and 3 assists.

Augusta's defensive pressure forced 25 turnovers, leading to 32 points off those mistakes. The Jaguars also dominated the fast break, scoring 19 points in transition and holding a 13-10 edge in offensive rebounds, which led to 12 second-chance points.
