Augusta defeats Georgia College in Cancer Awareness Game, Gardner honored for 1,000 career points

Augusta, GA – The Augusta men's basketball team secured a dominant 88-76 victory over Georgia College on Wednesday night. The game served as the annual Cancer Awareness – HERE TO WIN event in conjunction with the Georgia Cancer Center. During halftime, Demitri Gardner was honored for surpassing 1,000 career points, marking a significant milestone in his collegiate career. With the win, Augusta improves to 12-6overall and 6-2 in Peach Belt Conference play, while Georgia College falls to 6-13 and 1-8 in league action.

The Jaguars came out strong, taking a 42-29 lead into halftime behind efficient shooting and a dominant presence in the paint. Augusta maintained control throughout the second half, holding off Georgia College's efforts while shooting 60.7% from the field after the break.

Demitri Gardner and Max Amadasun led the way with 23 points each, with Gardner shooting 10-of-19 from the field, including two three-pointers. Amadasun recorded a double-double, pulling down 16 rebounds, five of which came on the offensive glass.

John St. Germain III provided a steady presence at guard, finishing with 10 points, seven assists, and three steals. Elias Palsson chipped in 11 points off the bench, knocking down two three-pointers. TJ Baker added nine points on a perfect 3-for-3 shooting performance.

Augusta controlled the boards, out-rebounding Georgia College 43-24 and limiting second-chance opportunities. The Jaguars also dominated inside, outscoring the Bobcats 40-32 in the paint and converting 14-of-17 free throws to seal the win.

Next Up: The Jaguars return to the road on Saturday, February 1, for a pivotal Peach Belt Conference matchup against Columbus State. Tip-off is set for 3:30 p.m. in Columbus, GA.
