Saint Leo, Fl. - The Augusta baseball team dropped a doubleheader to Saint Leo University to open the season Friday. The Jaguars dropped the first game 6-1 then fell 5-4 in 10 innings in the night cap.
GAME ONE
In the opener,
Nolan Turner was one of the bright spots as he collected two hits and scored the lone AU run in the 9th inning.
Aidan Cannaday delivered the RBi single to score Turner.
Caleb Jatko and
Landon Skeen pitched well out of the bullpen. The duo combined to cover 6.2 innings giving up just five hits while striking out three.
GAME TWO
In the night cap, Turner started the game with a bang slugging his first homer of the season to lead things off. Augusta added two more runs in the third with
Zach Kwiatkowski and
Jake Vachon going deep as the Jags cracked three homers in the game.
Saint Leo got on the board in the 4th, but AU responded in the 5th with Vachon driving in Kwiatkowski giving the Jags a 4-1 lead. The Lions would score three times in the 6th to knot the score at four.
It would stay tied before Saint Leo plated the game winning run in the 10th.
Dawson Campbell started for the Jaguars and went four innings giving up just two hits and a single run.
Robert Hunt pitched two scoreless innings out of the bullpen.
The two teams will play another doubleheader on Saturday, with first pitch scheduled for 1 p.m.
