ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla. – Augusta volleyball wrapped up its two-match series at Flagler on Saturday afternoon, falling 3–1 inside Flagler Gym. The Jaguars are now 21–6 overall and 9–2 in Peach Belt Conference play, while the Saints improved to 16–11 overall and 9–2 in the league standings.
Flagler took the match by scores of 25–12, 23–25, 25–16, and 25–18. Augusta hit .105 as a team and finished with 67 digs, while the Saints hit .252 and used 16 team blocks to slow down the Jaguars' attack.
Layne Witherspoon led Augusta with 14 kills on a .483 hitting percentage, adding two block assists. Mia Saavedra finished with five kills, 19 assists, and 11 digs, while Lauren Nelson contributed seven kills, seven digs, and an ace.
Angela Mateos provided three kills and two blocks in the middle, and Sofiia Snitsarevych chipped in five kills and three block assists. Setter Sydney Harrington handed out 11 assists and added 10 digs, while Giulia Rodrigues recorded 13 digs and an ace from the back row.
Flagler had four players with at least seven kills, led by Marley Middlebrooks with 15 kills and four aces. Setter Clare Sheedy ran the Saints offense efficiently, dishing out 41 assists while adding seven kills and 21 digs.
After dropping the opening set, Augusta responded with a 25–23 win in the second behind strong play from Witherspoon and Saavedra. Flagler regained momentum in the third and fourth sets, closing out the match to even the season series.
Augusta returns home to Christenberry Fieldhouse on Friday, Nov. 7, for a 7 p.m. Peach Belt matchup against Lander.
