Wilson, N.C. - Two free throws by
Tobias Prall with one second left gave the Augusta men a 83-81 win over Barton College in the 45 Second Classic in Wilson, N.C. on Saturday. The Jaguars are now 1-3 on the year while the Bulldogs are 0-2. Elias Palsson led AU with a game high 27 points in the victory.
Augusta finished with four players in double figures with
Charlie McBeath and
Luis Nonfon each having 14 points while Prall added 11 in the winning effort.
It was the Bulldogs jumping out to a quick 10-0 but the Jaguars stormed back behind the hot hand of Palsson and Augusta would lead 39-37 at the half.
The second half would be a see-saw battle with neither team able to open up a sizable lead. With just over five minutes to play, the Bulldogs would have a 75-71 lead. A pair of Nonfon free throws would make it a two point game. Then, with four minutes to go, McBeath would drill a three-pointer giving the Jaguars the lead. With just over a minute to play, Barton would retake the lead on two free throws but it would not last. A McBeath layup with :21 left gave AU an 81-80 advantage. With :12 left, the Bulldogs would sink one of two free throws to knot the score at 81. Then, with just :01 left, Prall was fouled sending him to the line where he would make both free throws for the Jaguar victory.
Augusta shot 40% from the field while holding Barton College to 36% shooting. The Jaguars also out rebounded the Bulldogs by four.Â
Nonfon grabbed nine rebounds to lead AU while McBeath adding eight. Palsson and Prall each had six a peice.
Rodney Scott and
Matias Zanotto each had four assists.
The Jaguars will play their first home game of the season on Wednesday at 7:30 p.m. when they take on Emmanuel University on Young Jaguars Night.
