Hartsville, SC - The Augusta women went on the road Tuesday and upset No. 2 Coker 82-79. With the win the Jaguars are now 3-1 while the Cobras falls to 4-1. The game was tight through out with Augusta having four players score in double figures.
Elyse Autrey led AU with 19 points including 10-12 from the foul line.
AU trailed by two points after the first quarter but tallied 24 second quarter points to take the halftime lead. Coker would respond in the third but Augusta would outscore the Cobras by three points in the final quarter.Â
The game was tied at 52 after three and Augusta would surge to the lead behind a basket by
Chloe Ross and a three-pointer by
Sierra Burns. With just over three minutes to play, another Burns basket would put AU up 65-62. Then, with under a minute left, the Cobras would hit one free throw to make it a one point game. Autrey would get fouled with a second left and make two free throws for the winning margin.Â
AU would hit on 45% of their shots while Coker shot 42%. The difference was from the line as the Jaguars were 18-24 while the Cobras were just 6-12. Augusta also out rebounded Coker 38-31.
Quinasia Abercrombie finished with 16 points while
Sierra Burns having 15 and
Sa'Niah Dorsey scoring 11 points off the bench.
Nadiyah Byard had nine rebounds to pace the Jaguars.
Augusta will return to Christenberry Fieldhouse Wednesday at 5:30 p.m. for their Peach Belt Conference opener against Flagler.Â
