Augusta, Ga. - Augusta sophomore
Quinasia Abercrombie poured in 17 points while grabbing 10 rebounds as Augusta outlasted Flagler 63-56 Wednesday night at Christenberry Fieldhouse. With the win, the Jaguars improved to 4-1 overall and 1-0 in Peach Belt Conference play while the Saints fall to 3-4 overall and 0-1 in conference action.
After a sluggish start to the game, the Jaguars picked it up midway through the opening quarter and had a six point lead at the end of one. The Jags would not surrender the lead the rest of the way and led by as many as 12 points in the fourth quarter.
Augusta held Flagler to just 35% shooting and connected on seven more free throws for the winning margin. The Jaguars also forced 22 turnovers while committing just 12 on the game.
Four other Jaguars had at least eight points with
Sa'Niah Dorsey and
Elyse Autrey scoring nine points apiece while
Chloe Ross and
Olivia Martin had eight points each, with most of those points coming in the paint.
Neither team shot the ball particularly well, but the Jaguars did score 28 points inside, which proved to be the difference. Augusta did go to the line twice as many times as Flagler, which contributed to the victory.
Augusta will be back at Christenberry Fieldhouse Saturday afternoon at 3 p.m. when they play host to Georgia Southwestern.
