BLUFFTON, S.C. – Augusta picked up a 78–71 Peach Belt Conference road win at USC Beaufort on Wednesday evening at The Cove. The Jaguars improve to 6–2 overall and 3–1 in PBC play, while the Sand Sharks move to 5–6 and 2–2 in the league.
After trailing 19–11 after the first quarter and falling behind by 11 early in the second, Augusta responded with a 24–7 run to take control. Quinasia Abercrombie powered the surge with multiple finishes inside, while Elyse Autrey added key free throws and a late three-pointer. Amari Jackson closed the half with two free throws to give the Jaguars a 35–29 lead at the break.
Augusta maintained its momentum in the third. Autrey opened the half with four straight at the line, and the Jaguars continued to score in the paint behind Abercrombie, Jackson, and Nadiyah Byard, extending the margin to 58–46 heading into the fourth quarter.
USC Beaufort cut the deficit to 70–67 with 1:27 remaining, but Augusta answered. Abercrombie scored on a strong drive and then hit four consecutive free throws to push the lead back to seven. Autrey closed out the win with two more at the stripe in the final seconds.
Autrey led Augusta with 23 points, five assists, and five steals. Abercrombie added 19 points and six rebounds, Sierra Burns scored 13 on 5-for-7 shooting, and Jackson chipped in eight points off the bench.
Augusta shot 59.6 percent from the field and outscored USC Beaufort 48–28 in the paint while converting 21 Sand Shark turnovers into 19 points. The Jaguars also finished with 13 steals.
Bowman led USC Beaufort with 22 points, while Lydia Gattozzi added 15 and seven rebounds, and Sami Bardonaro scored 13.
