COLUMBUS, GA- In a showdown of two of the top three Peach Belt Conference teams, Augusta's rally in the fourth quarter would not be enough as they fall to Columbus State 75-65 at the Lumpkin Center in Columbus, Ga. Saturday afternoon. The Jaguars are now 5-4 in conference play, 13-6 overall. The Cougars remain perfect at home and are 7-2 in the PBC and 13-5 overall.
CSU led by nine points starting the fourth only to see Augusta storm back. With 6:30 to play in the game
Mone Florence's lay in would tie the game at 57. Two minutes later, another basket by Florence would tie it at 62. But the Cougars would control the final 4:30 of the game outscoring the Jags 13-3 for the winning margin.
Yamani Paul would lead Augusta with 18 points with six of those points coming in the first four minutes of the fourth quarter.
Quinasia Abercrombie tallied 15 points with a team high five rebounds while Florence finished with eight points and
Autumn Phillips seven points.
One key was on the free throw line as Columbus State made 22 of 24 while Augusta went 16 of 26. The Cougars also had a 10 rebound advantage over AU.
The Jaguars return home on Wednesday, Feb. 5 when they host Clayton State on Greek Night at Christenberry Fieldhouse.
