Late Game Heroics Give Augusta A Key Win Over Clayton State

Augusta, Ga- In a key Peach Belt Conference game, the Augusta women knocked off Clayton State on Wednesday night at Christenberry Fieldhouse, 48-44, to remain in the hunt for the top spot in the conference. With the win, the Jaguars improve to 7-4 in PBC play and 15-6 overall. The Lakers fall to 7-3 in the conference and 13-6 overall.

With the game tied at 44 with under a minute to play, Yamani Paul got free for a layup to put the Jaguars up by two. After a couple of missed Laker free throws, both Quinasia Abercrombie and Autumn Phillips sank free throws to secure the win.

The Jaguars led for most of the game, but the Lakers grabbed a two-point lead with 1:30 to play. Tyasia Freeman tied it at 44. Then, in the last minute, it was the tenacity of the AU defense and Paul's key shot that lifted them to victory.
