AUGUSTA, Ga. – The Augusta University women's tennis team secured a narrow 4-3 victory over Francis Marion University on Monday at the Newman Tennis Center.
Francis Marion claimed the doubles point after winning two of the three matches. Andrea Gonzalez and Juliana Martinez fell 2-6 at No. 1 doubles, while Priscilla Landi and Julieta Palma were defeated 1-6 at No. 2. Augusta earned a win at No. 3 doubles as Camila Taborga and Giovanna Patrocinio pulled out a close 6-5 victory.
In singles action, Augusta rallied to take four of six matches, securing the overall win. Gonzalez delivered a strong performance at No. 1 singles with a 6-4, 6-0 win, while Martinez followed with a 6-1, 6-3 victory at No. 2. Taborga dominated her No. 5 singles match with a 6-0, 6-1 win, and Patrocinio clinched the match for the Jaguars with a 6-3, 6-4 victory at No. 6.
Francis Marion picked up wins at No. 3 and No. 4 singles. Luciana Bejarano fell 3-6, 4-6 at No. 3, and Landi was defeated 4-6, 6-7 at No. 4.
With the win, Augusta improves to 3-1 on the season. The Jags travel to Coker on Wednesday Feb 12
