Augusta Never Trails in Road Win Over Georgia Southwestern

Americus, Ga- Augusta went on the road Saturday night and picked up a 78-66 win over Georgia Southwestern to remain a game out of first place in the Peach Belt Conference standings. With the win, Augusta improves to 10-3 in the conference and 16-7 overall, a game behind Columbus State. The Hurricanes fall to 2-11 in PBC play and 8-15 overall.

The Jaguars were led by Demitri Gardner's 25 points, 17 of which came in the first half.

John St. Germain III added 11 points, as did TJ Baker in the winning effort. Maximillian Amadasun finished one point shy of another double-double as he tallied nine points while grabbing 10 rebounds.

In the first half, the Hurricanes tied the score at 11 five minutes in, but would never draw even again. An Evan Joyner lay-in would give AU a 12 point lead with eight minutes to go in the first half as the Jaguars would eventually take a 40-35 lead to the locker room.

In the final 20 minutes, Augusta would dominate on the scoreboard and would never be challenged. Midway through the half, Amadasun's layup would give AU a 14 point lead. A few minutes later, back-to-back baskets by St. Germain and Gardner would give the Jaguars a 15 point lead as they would never look back.

For the game, Augusta shot 49% and made eight more field goals than the Hurricanes. AU also dominated on the boards with 10 more than GSW. The Jaguars also took care of the ball and only had 10 turnovers.

Augusta will have a quick turnaround as they will next host Lander on Monday night at 7:30 p.m.
