COLUMBIA, S.C. – The Augusta University men's tennis team opened its 2025 season with a commanding 7-0 victory over Benedict College on Monday at the Richland County Tennis Center.
The Jaguars set the tone early, sweeping all three doubles matches to claim the first point of the day. The pairing of Enzo Garutti and Alexis Bailhache secured a 6-4 win at No. 1 doubles, while David Perret and Enzo Sakiyama matched that scoreline at No. 2. Humberto Pinto and Mario Curiel closed out the doubles sweep with a decisive 6-2 victory at No. 3.
In singles competition, Augusta continued its strong performance across the board. Garutti earned a 6-3, 6-1 win at No. 1 singles, followed by Bailhache's dominant 6-4, 6-0 result at No. 2. Perret secured a 6-3, 6-3 victory in the No. 3 slot, while Pinto dropped just two games en route to a 6-2, 6-0 win at No. 4. Sakiyama battled to a 6-4, 6-4 victory at No. 5, and Curiel completed the sweep with a flawless 6-0, 6-0 win at No. 6.
With the victory, Augusta moves to 1-0 on the season and will look to build on the strong start as they prepare to take on Coker on Thursday, Feb 6
