Jaguars Split Doubleheader With Mount Olive

AUGUSTA, Ga. – Augusta softball split their Sunday doubleheader against Mount Olive at Jaguar Field, falling 1-0 in Game 1 before bouncing back for a 9-5 victory in Game 2.

In the opener, Augusta (5-5) struggled to find offense despite a strong performance in the circle from Madalyn Spinks. Spinks pitched a complete game, allowing just one run on four hits with two strikeouts. Mount Olive scored the game's only run in the third inning, and the Jaguars were unable to answer. Bailee Roberts and Audrey Abbott each recorded a hit, but Augusta left runners stranded in key moments, including a seventh-inning opportunity where Roberts singled but was caught stealing.

Game 2 saw a different story as Augusta's offense came alive. Despite falling behind 4-0 in the top of the first inning, the Jaguars responded quickly. Bobbi Poff singled and scored on a sacrifice fly from Cadance Winder in the bottom half to get Augusta on the board. The Jaguars added another run in the second when Payton Terrell doubled and scored on a single from Sophie Baker.

Augusta tied the game in the third after Poff walked and Bailee Roberts reached on a fielder's choice, setting the stage for Audrey Abbott's RBI single and Kaylynn Scaffe's run-scoring groundout to even the score at 4-4. In the fourth, Poff delivered the big blow with a two-run home run to left field, giving Augusta a 6-4 lead.

Mount Olive cut the lead to 6-5 in the fifth, but Augusta pulled away with three more runs. Terrell doubled again in the fifth, scoring on an RBI single from Ansley Gibson. The Jaguars added another run in the sixth on Baker's RBI double to cap off the scoring.

Terrell (1-1) earned the win, pitching 4.2 innings while allowing five runs on five hits. Hannah Turner came in for relief, throwing 2.1 scoreless innings to secure the victory.
