MILLEDGEVILLE, Ga. – The Augusta University men's tennis team dropped a 5-2 decision to No. 50 Georgia College on Monday at the Centennial Center in their Peach Belt Conference opener. The loss moves Augusta to 9-4 on the season and 0-2 in PBC play.
Georgia College claimed the doubles point after securing wins at No. 1 and No. 3 doubles. Enzo Garutti and Alexis Bailhache fell 4-6 at No. 1, while Humberto Pinto and Enzo Sakiyama were defeated 3-6 at No. 3. Augusta picked up a victory at No. 2 doubles, with Arthur Valette and David Perret earning a 6-3 win.
In singles action, Augusta secured two victories. Valette delivered a 6-2, 6-4 win at No. 3 singles, while Perret battled through a three-set match at No. 4 to claim a 2-6, 6-3, 10-7 victory.
Georgia College won four singles matches to seal the victory. Garutti fell 2-6, 6-7 (4-7) at No. 1, Bailhache dropped a three-set battle 6-2, 6-7 (6-8), 0-10 at No. 2, Pinto fell 3-6, 5-7 at No. 5, and Sakiyama lost 2-6, 3-6 at No. 6.
With the loss, Augusta moves to 9-4 overall and will look to bounce back when they host Auburn University Montgomery on Saturday, March 15, at 1:00 p.m. at the Newman Tennis Center.
