Moody Knocks RBI Triple in Loss to Columbus State

COLUMBUS, Ga. – Kelsea Moody drove in Augusta's only run with an RBI triple in the sixth inning, but the Jaguars were unable to overcome an early deficit, falling 4-1 to Columbus State in the final game of their Peach Belt Conference series on Saturday at Cougar Field. Augusta moves to 16-15 overall and 2-7 in conference play.

Moody led Augusta at the plate, going 1-for-3 with an RBI triple, while Bailee Roberts and Chesney Miles both registered hits. 

Columbus State took a 1-0 lead in the second inning on a solo home run. The Cougars added another run in the fourth on an RBI single and extended their lead to 4-0 in the fifth after a two-run inning.

Augusta got on the board in the sixth when Scaffe was hit by a pitch and Moody followed with a triple down the left-field line, scoring Kaylynn Scaffe to cut the deficit to 4-1. The Jaguars were unable to mount a comeback, as they were retired in order in the seventh.

Madalyn Spinks (5-3) took the loss, allowing four runs (three earned) on five hits while striking out four over six innings.

UP NEXT: Augusta travels to USC Beaufort for a three-game Peach Belt Conference series on March 22-23.
