Augusta's Late Runs Not Enough Against USC Beaufort

Beaufort, S.C.- Despite scoring four runs in the last two innings, and a Roland Chance home run, Augusta came up short in falling to USC Beaufort 6-4 Friday in a non-conference game. The Jaguars are now 8-21 while the Sand Sharks are 4-24 on the year.

The first seven innings was a pitchers duel as Jagger Lovinelli pitched six strong innings giving up just a single run and six hits while striking out eight.

Despite the outing, the AU bats were held in check and trailed 2-0 entering the eighth. In that inning, Chance walked to lead off the inning and moved to third on a Matthew Thigpen double. Nolan Turner would score Chance on a sacrifice fly. That was followed by a RBI single by Pariker Ingram that tied the score at two.

The Sand Sharks would retake the lead pushing four runs across the plate in the bottom of the inning and took a 6-2 lead into the ninth.

Again, Augusta would not go down quietly. Mike Morrison singled and then it was Chance cracking his sixth homer of the year giving AU their final runs of the game.

The Jaguars had just seven hits with Mike Morrison and Thigpen each collecting two of them.

Augusta will next be in action Tuesday when they travel to Florence S.C. to take on Francis Marion.
