AUGUSTA, Ga. – On a beautiful Friday evening at Jaguar Field, Augusta University softball dropped a 6-3 decision to Georgia College in the opening game of their Peach Belt Conference series. The game also served as the program's first D-BAT Day, celebrating local youth softball and baseball players and their families in attendance.
Augusta (18-19, 3-7 PBC) capitalized on early mistakes by the Bobcats and built a 3-1 lead through four innings, but Georgia College (18-14, 6-4 PBC) rallied with five unanswered runs across the final three frames to claim the road win.
The Jaguars struck first in the second inning when Kaylynn Scaffe reached on an error and later scored on an RBI single from Grace Bailey. After Georgia College tied it in the third, Augusta responded again as Cadance Winder singled to drive in Bailee Roberts for a 2-1 advantage. In the fourth, Bailey and Sam Tener combined for two hits to put runners in scoring position, and Ayellad Howard's hustle forced a throw that allowed Bailey to cross home and make it 3-1.
The Bobcats took control late with a two-run sixth and two more insurance runs in the seventh. Augusta was held scoreless over the final three innings, despite a seventh-inning single from Roberts, who finished 2-for-4 on the day.
Tener collected two hits at the top of the lineup, while Bailey added two more with an RBI. Madalyn Spinks (6-6) took the loss in the circle, tossing six innings with two strikeouts before Ansley Gibson entered in relief for the seventh.
The Jaguars return to action on Saturday with a doubleheader against Georgia College at Jaguar Field. First pitch of game one is set for 12:00 p.m. Live video and stats will be available at augustajags.com.
