AUGUSTA, Ga. – The Augusta University men's tennis team took on No. 17 North Georgia on Monday at the Newman Tennis Center, coming up short in a 5-2 loss.
North Georgia secured the doubles point after winning two of the three matchups. David Perret and Arthur Valette fell 4-6 at No. 2 doubles, while Humberto Pinto and Enzo Sakiyama dropped a 3-6 match at No. 3. The No. 1 doubles match featuring Enzo Garutti and Alexis Bailhache was left unfinished at 5-5.
In singles play, Augusta picked up two wins. Valette fought back for a 3-6, 6-2, 6-2 victory at No. 3, while Pinto battled through three sets for a 3-6, 7-6 (7-0), 6-0 win at No. 5.
North Georgia took the remaining singles matches. Garutti fell 5-7, 2-6 at No. 1, Bailhache lost 3-6, 0-6 at No. 2, Perret was defeated 6-4, 0-6, 3-6 at No. 4, and Sakiyama dropped a 3-6, 4-6 match at No. 6.
With the loss, Augusta moves to 8-3 on the season. The Jaguars will look to rebound as they host Lenoir-Rhyne on Wednesday, March 5, at the Newman Tennis Center.
