Jags Take Down Bears 5-2

AUGUSTA, Ga. – The Augusta University women's tennis team earned a 5-2 victory over Lenoir-Rhyne on Wednesday at the Newman Tennis Center, improving to 8-3 on the season.

Lenoir-Rhyne took the doubles point after winning the top two matches. Andrea Gonzalez and Juliana Martinez fell 3-6 at No. 1 doubles, while Priscilla Landi and Julieta Palma dropped a 2-6 match at No. 2. The No. 3 doubles match was left unfinished, with Camila Taborga and Giovanna Patrocinio tied at 5-5.

Augusta responded with a strong singles performance, winning five of six matches. Luciana Bejarano claimed a 7-5, 6-3 victory at No. 3, while Landi secured a 6-3, 6-2 win at No. 4. Taborga earned a 6-2, 6-4 victory at No. 5, and Patrocinio dominated at No. 6 with a 6-1, 6-4 result.

In a battle at No. 1 singles, Gonzalez edged out her opponent in a three-set match, winning 7-6 (14-12), 1-6, 10-6. Martinez fell in a close match at No. 2 singles, 1-6, 6-7 (4-7), accounting for Lenoir-Rhyne's second point.

With the win, Augusta moves to 8-3 on the season and will return to action on Wednesday, March 13, when they travel to Georgia College.
