AUGUSTA, Ga. – The Augusta University softball team fell 4-2 in the final game of their Peach Belt Conference series against Flagler on Sunday at Jaguar Field. The Jaguars move to 15-13 overall and 1-4 in conference play.
Flagler jumped ahead early, scoring three runs in the first inning on a pair of extra-base hits and a sacrifice fly. Augusta quickly responded in the bottom of the first when Bobbi Poff singled, and Ayellad Howard reached on a fielder's choice. Both runners advanced on a wild pitch before Ansley Gibson delivered a two-run double to right center, cutting the deficit to 3-2.
Flagler added an insurance run in the third inning on an RBI single. From there, Augusta's offense was held in check, managing just two more hits for the remainder of the game. The Jaguars put the tying runs on base in the seventh after Ryan Hanson drew a walk and Poff recorded her third hit of the game, but the rally fell short.
Poff led Augusta at the plate, going 3-for-4 with a run scored. Gibson went 1-for-3 with a two-run double, while Hanson and Howard each reached base.
Hannah Turner (5-5) started and took the loss, allowing four runs on seven hits over 3.1 innings. Madalyn Spinks pitched 3.2 innings in relief, allowing no runs on three hits while striking out three.
