Augusta Bats Held In Check Against USC Aiken

Aiken, S.C. - The Augusta bats were held to just four hits and two runs as USC Aiken took the series opener against the Jaguars 7-2 Friday night at Roberto Hernandez Stadium, in Aiken, S.C. The Jaguars are now 5-14 in Peach Belt Conference play and 9-31 overall. The Pacers improve to 7-12 in the conference and 17-23 overall.

Garrett Wright started for AU and cruised through the first three innings before running into trouble in the fourth when USC Aiken plated the first three runs of the game. Wright (2-3) ended up going six innings giving up five earned runs and struck out four.

It was just a 3-0 game into the seventh inning when the Jaguars scored their first run of the game. Roland Chance doubled to start the inning and moved to third on a ground out. Rushton Bowles would deliver a sac fly plating Chance to make it a 3-1 ballgame.

The Pacers would score three more runs in the bottom of the inning before Augusta added their final run of the game in the ninth. A walk, a hit batsman and another walk would load the bases with two outs. Nolan Turner then came up with an infield single to score Chance.

Mike Morrison and Jake Vachon were the other Jaguars to collect hits on the night.

Game two of the series will be held Saturday with first pitch set for 4 p.m.
