Augusta, Ga. - Despite hitting their Peach Belt Conference leading 40th and 41st homer of the year, Augusta dropped a Wednesday night contest to Newberry 11-4.
The Jaguars drop to 9-27 overall while the Wolves improve to 19-16.
Nolan Turner led off the game for Augusta with his eighth homer of the season giving Augusta the early advantage.
After Newberry scored an unearned run in the second,
Ty McClintock connected for his first homer of the year, a two-run shot, that plated
Aidan Cannaday giving AU a 3-1 lead. McClintock had a season high three hits on the game.
Newberry would then score the next six runs making it 7-3. AU would get one run back in the bottom of the inning when
Mike Morrison delivered a RBI single scoring McClintock. That would also be the last run AU would score.
Turner continued his hot hitting at the plate with three hits and Morrison added a pair of singles. For the senior, he extended his hitting streak to 28 straight games. The school and conference record is 47 straight games held by Sam Barth that covered part of the 2004 and 2005 season.
Augusta will not be on the road for a weekend conference series at Columbus State starting Friday.
