AUGUSTA, Ga. – Augusta University softball picked up back-to-back shutout wins on Tuesday afternoon at Jaguar Field, defeating Anderson University 3-0 and 7-0 in nonconference action. With the sweep, the Jaguars improve to 28-25 overall.
Game 1: Augusta 3, Anderson 0
Ansley Gibson earned her 10th win of the season, tossing five scoreless innings while allowing just two hits and striking out two. Madalyn Spinks earned her third save of the year, closing out the final two innings without allowing a run.
The Jaguars broke through in the third when Kaylynn Scaffe and Chesney Miles reached base and Bailee Roberts delivered a two-out RBI single to score Scaffe. In the fourth, Sam Winder doubled and scored on an RBI single up the middle by Nevaeh Ross. Grace Bailey drove in Ross with a single to center to make it 2-0.
Ross added another RBI in the sixth, bringing home pinch runner Kelsea Moody on a two-out single after Augusta moved her into scoring position with a sacrifice bunt and productive at-bats.
Game 2: Augusta 7, Anderson 0
Payton Terrell and Madalyn Spinks combined to allow just one hit over seven shutout innings in game two. Terrell threw six innings with two strikeouts and no walks to improve to 5-3, while Spinks closed the seventh.
Roberts opened the scoring with a solo home run in the third and later added a walk, a single, and a stolen base. In the fourth, Winder scored on an RBI single from Ross to make it 2-0.
Augusta broke the game open in the sixth with five runs. Ross doubled to lead off and later scored on an error. After walks to Miles and Roberts loaded the bases, Audrey Johnson cleared them with a three-RBI double to the gap. Terrell followed with her second single of the day, and a wild pitch allowed Johnson to score for the final run.
Ross went 2-for-3 with a double and two RBIs, Roberts added two hits, and Johnson drove in a game-high three runs. Augusta totaled 11 hits and committed no errors.
