Augusta Drops Doubleheader to Barton at Jaguar Field

AUGUSTA, Ga. – Augusta University softball was held scoreless across both games of Sunday's doubleheader, falling 4-0 and 2-0 to visiting Barton College in nonconference action at Jaguar Field. The Jaguars were limited to just two hits in each game despite strong efforts in the circle.

Game 1: Barton 4, Augusta 0

Augusta was held hitless in game one, managing just one baserunner on a walk by Kaylynn Scaffe in the third inning. The Jaguars put the ball in play consistently but couldn't break through against a steady defensive effort.

Ansley Gibson took the loss in the circle after entering in the third inning and allowing four runs on four hits. Madalyn Spinks came in and was sharp in relief, throwing 4.2 scoreless innings and striking out five while allowing just one hit.

Game 2: Augusta 0, Barton 2

The Jaguars picked up two hits in game two, one each from Grace Bailey and Payton Terrell. Augusta's best scoring opportunity came in the seventh inning when Sophie Baker walked and Terrell followed with a single. A fielder's choice and groundout ended the game with two runners stranded.

Terrell pitched a complete game, allowing just one earned run on six hits with no walks across seven innings. She retired the side in order in the second and sixth innings and worked around base traffic in the fourth and fifth to keep the game within reach.

Despite clean defense and quality pitching, Augusta was unable to capitalize at the plate in either contest.

UP NEXT: Augusta travels to USC Aiken April 11-12 for a three game PBC series.
