Augusta Men Off to a Solid Start at NCAA Regional

Tallahassee, Fl. -  With the first round of the NCAA Regional in Tallahassee, Fl. in the books, the Augusta men are in a tie for fourth place at 3-under-par. The top five teams out of the regional, along with the lowest individual not on a qualifying team, make the NCAA Championship. Currently the Jags are tied with New Mexico. Host Florida State has the lead with Notre Dame in second and Ole Miss in third place. 

Bo Blanchard II was the low Jaguar as he opened play with a 4-under 68, good enough for fourth place. Pieter Rossouw Jr.is just a shot behind at 3-under and in a tie for seventh place..

The Jaguars started on the back nine and Blanchard birdied the second hole he played. He did follow that up with a bogey but registered another birdie before making the turn. Blanchard's final nine holes featured three more birdies and the rest pars for his final tally. 

Like Blanchard, Rossouw birdied his second hole of the day. Two holes later he would birdie the par 5 14th hole before a bogey on his ninth hole of the day. He would roll home four birdies on his final nine holes to go along with two more bogies for his opening round 69. 

Stefan Jacobs and Dean Wilken had the other counting scores for the day. Jacobs registered two birdies, two bogies and a double bogey on his opening nine holes. He then had a birdie and a bogey over the final nine for a score of 73. For Wilken, he had two bogies and a birdie over his first nine holes of the day. He did make eight pars to go along with a double bogey to finish his round. 

Chapman Barnett was the other Jaguar in the field and he carded a 79 for his opening round. 

Round two is scheduled to tee off at 8:00 a.m. Tuesday as they will again utilize both number one and number ten tees.
