Dahlonega, Ga. - In a winner's bracket game of the Peach Belt Conference Tournament, Columbus State knocked off Augusta 6-1 as AU suffers their first loss in the double elimination tournament. The Jaguars are 13-39 on the year while the Cougars are 29-20. Augusta is scheduled to play late Saturday against either North Georgia or Georgia Southwestern.
CSU plated four runs in the second inning to take the early lead. A hit by a pitch, an error, walk, a wild pitch and a three-run double were the big plays in the frame for the Cougars.
CSU would lead 5-0 before Augsuta got on the scoreboard in the fifth. A one out walk to
Ty McClintock would get the Jags going.
Zach Kwiatkowski would double moving McClintock to third.
Nolan Turner would lift a sacrifice fly to plate the only AU run of the game.
Kwiatkowski would end the game with three hits as five other Jaguars picked up hits as well. They did leave nine runners on base as they were unable to come up with the big hit when needed.
Augusta will now play an elimination game with first pitch scheduled for 9 p.m.
