Jaguar Volleyball Sweeps Mississippi College

AIKEN, S.C. – Augusta rolled to a straight-sets win over Mississippi College on Saturday afternoon, 25–20, 25–10, 25–17, to improve to 7–2 on the season.

The Jaguars hit .198 as a team with 41 kills on 126 swings and finished with 9 service aces, 6.0 total blocks, and 78 digs. Mississippi College was limited to .075 hitting with 26 kills and 10.0 blocks.

Layne Witherspoon led the attack with 15 kills on .619 hitting, while Lauren Nelson turned in a double-double of 10 kills and 18 digs. Mia Saavedra contributed six kills and 18 digs, and setter Sydney Harrington directed the offense with 33 assists and five aces. Sofiia Snitsarevych added six kills and two blocks, and libero Giulia Rodrigues picked up 16 digs.

After a back-and-forth opening frame, Augusta closed the first with a late 5–2 push. The Jaguars dominated the second set, hitting .275 and holding the Choctaws to four kills on -.027 hitting. In the third, Witherspoon and Nelson sparked a 6–1 run midway through, and AU carried the momentum to a 25–17 finish.

Augusta (7–2) returns to action on Friday, Sept. 26, when it hosts its Peach Belt Conference and home opener at the Convocation Center.
