Augusta, Ga. - The Augusta University women took care of rival USC Aiken Wednesday night at Christenberry Fieldhouse 59-46. The Jaguar defense was dominant in holding the Pacers to just 26% shooting from the field. With the win the Jaguars are now 6-3 in Peach Belt Conference play and 10-3 overall. The Pacers fall to 1-7 in conference play and 4-12 overall.
Augusta never trailed in the game and after leading by one point after the opening quarter, held the Pacers to just two free throws the entire second quarter as they built up a 32-16 lead at the half. The Jaguars would then hold the Pacers scoreless for the first four minutes of the third quarter and rolled to the win.
Amari Jackson led Augusta with a 16 point, 16 rebound effort.
Quinasia Abercrombie had 10 points with
Sa'Niah Dorsey scoring 11 points. Dorsey also had a game high four steals.Â
The Jaguars shot 40% from the field and hit four three pointers. AU also dominated on the glass with a 44-30 advantage. Abercrombie had 12 of those rebounds to go along with the big game from Jackson. AU also forced 18 turnovers.Â
Augusta will next be in action Friday night at 5:30 when they take on Livingstone College.
