Joyner’s 21 Leads Augusta in Road Setback at Flagler

ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla. – Evan Joyner scored a game-high 21 points to lead Augusta men's basketball, but Flagler pulled away late in the second half for a 72–66 Peach Belt Conference win Saturday afternoon at Flagler Gym.

The Jaguars traded punches throughout a tight first half, with neither team leading by more than three. After Flagler opened with a quick three, Augusta responded behind Joyner's early scoring and a pair of threes from DaRon Dunbar. Kyndon Wilburg added a three of his own as the Jaguars stayed in front briefly midway through the half, before Flagler answered from the perimeter and the teams went to the break tied, 30–30.

Augusta regained the lead early in the second half, getting a bucket from Luis Nonfon and free throws from Elías Pálsson to make it 33–30. The game remained a one-possession battle into the final eight minutes, with Pálsson knocking down a pair of threes and Wilburg hitting at the line to keep the Jaguars within striking distance.

Flagler created separation at the free-throw line down the stretch, scoring 16 of its 42 second-half points at the stripe. Augusta cut the deficit to 65–58 on a late three from Pálsson, and Nonfon and Wilburg each scored in the final minute, but the Saints closed it out with late free throws.

Joyner finished 10-of-14 from the field and added four rebounds. Pálsson hit three threes and scored 12 points, while Wilburg added 11 points and five assists. Nonfon posted 10 points and a team-high 12 rebounds.

Augusta returns home Wednesday, Jan. 28 for Greek Night at Christenberry Fieldhouse.
