Augusta, Ga. - In a battle of second place conference foes, the Augusta University women fell 82-70 to USC Beaufort in overtime Wednesday night at Christenberry Fieldhouse. The Jaguars are now 8-4 in Peach Belt Conference play and 13-6 overall. The Sand Sharks improve to 8-4 in conference and 12-7 overall and take a one game lead over AU for second place in the conference.

The Sand Sharks tied the game at 65 with :05 left in regulation and then outscored the Jaguars 17-5 in the overtime, with most of their points coming from the foul line.

Quinasia Abercrombie registered a double-double with 17 points and 10 rebounds and added seven assists to lead AU. Chloe Ross had 13 points with three other Jaguars hitting for eight points each.

The Jaguars led for most of the game and had a 65-61 lead with :30 second to play after Elyse Autrey hit a pair of free throws. But the Sand Sharks would tie it as Janiyah Heyword would hit a bucket with :05 to play. AU did have a couple of shots in the final seconds but could not connect on the winning basket.

In OT, it would be the Taniyah Bowman show for USC Beafort as she scored 13 of their points for the win. 

For the game, Augusta shot 34% while USC Beaufort hit on 50% of their shots. The Sand Sharks also out rebounded Augusta 43-34.  

Augusta travels to Americus, Ga. on Saturday when they take on Georgia Southwestern. Tip time is 5:30 p.m.
