Competing to the Augusta Standard is the Goal For the Women's Basketball Team as They Start Practice

Augusta, Ga. - Coming off a third straight 20 win season and a trip to the NCAA Tournament, the Augusta women have now hit the court as a complete unit to gear up for the 2026-27 season. The standard has been raised for the program and coach Celeste Stewart said that's the main focus, to compete to that standard and understand the process to get there.

This year's Jaguar squad features several familiar faces to go along with eight new faces. But most of those newcomers are upper classmen which helps in not only the learning curve, but developing chemistry with the returning players.

"I think it does. I think we do a really good job of getting along off the court so now it's just translating that over to the basketball court as well," said Stewart.

While the team has been working in the preseason in smaller groups, now that they can practice as a full team is just a continuation of all that early work.

"Just capitalizing on what it looks like with five-on-five and gaining that chemistry over time and that's just the start of it," said Stewart.

But being on the court as a complete unit makes this an exciting time of year for Stewart and the Jaguars.

"All the hard work in preseason play and now we get to put the jerseys on," said Stewart. "I know the girls are really excited about it and it makes things that much more official that the season is coming."
