MILLEDGEVILLE, Ga. – Augusta volleyball fought back from a two-set deficit and came within two points of forcing a fifth Friday night, but Georgia College held on for a 3-1 win at the Centennial Center.
The Bobcats won 25-22, 25-11, 22-25 and 26-24. Augusta moved to 5-12 overall and 3-3 in Peach Belt Conference play.
Sofiia Snitsarevych turned in Augusta's most efficient offensive performance, finishing with 11 kills on .364 hitting and three block assists. Layne Witherspoon added nine kills and an ace, while Essence Jones recorded five kills on .273 hitting.
Grayson Jones provided a spark from the service line with five aces and added nine digs. Moni Anjous led the Jaguars with 11 digs and served an ace.
Kinley Nicholls handed out 24 assists, while Andrea Rodríguez added nine assists and five digs.
The opening set featured eight ties and three lead changes. Augusta stayed within reach throughout before Georgia College used a late push to take it 25-22.
The Bobcats controlled the second set, holding the Jaguars to six kills and a negative hitting percentage in a 25-11 win.
Augusta answered in the third. The Jaguars held Georgia College to six kills and a negative hitting percentage while extending the match with a 25-22 victory.
The Augusta offense found its rhythm in the fourth, putting down 16 kills and hitting .196. The set included eight ties and three lead changes before Georgia College broke a 24-24 tie with the final two points.
Augusta recorded 42 kills and eight service aces. Georgia College finished with 46 kills on .221 hitting and held advantages in digs, 52-47, and blocks, 14.0-4.0.
The teams meet again Saturday at 3 p.m. inside the Centennial Center.
