Morrow, Ga.- The Augusta University women's basketball team turned the ball over 26 times and dropped a road contest to Clayton St. 61-60 Wednesday night in Morrow, Ga. The Jaguars are now 12-6 in Peach Belt Conference play and 17-8 overall. The Lakers improve to 7-10 in conference play and 10-14 overall.
Quinasia Abercrombie poured in a game high 23 points for the Jags and
Amari Jackson added 12 points.Â
AU had a seven point lead at the half but were outscored 32-24 in the final two quarters as Clayton St. picked up the victory.
In the fourth quarter, a pair of
Sierra Burns free throws tied the game at 52. The Lakers would surge out to a five point lead with just over two minutes to play. Back-to-back baskets by Abercrombie and Jackson would draw the Jags to within a point with 1:30 left in the game. Neither team would make another basket with the Lakers getting the win.
Clayton St. scored 28 points off the AU turnovers as that would be the difference in the ballgame. The Jaguars did out rebound the Lakers and held them to just 39% shooting for the game.Â
Tianna Dismuke had 19 points and 10 rebounds to lead Clayton St.Â
Nadiyah Byard had a game high six rebounds for AU with Abercrombie and
Sa'Niah Dorsey each collecting five boards.
Augusta will be home on Saturday when they take on Middel Georgia at 1:30 p.m. It will be senior night and homecoming at Christenberry Fieldhouse.
