FRANKLIN SPRINGS, Ga. – The Augusta University women's tennis team earned a 6-1 road victory over Emmanuel University on Tuesday afternoon, improving to 2-2 on the season.
The Jaguars picked up the doubles point to take the early lead. Andrea Gonzalez and Maria Gento secured a hard-fought 7-6 (10-8) win at No. 1 doubles, while Giovanna Patrocinio and Camila Taborga won by default at No. 3. Emmanuel claimed the No. 2 doubles match.
In singles play, Augusta won four contested matches and added two more points by default. Maria Gento battled to a three-set victory at No. 2 singles, winning 4-6, 6-2, 10-7. Luciana Bejarano followed with a 6-2, 6-3 win at No. 3, and Priscilla Landi earned a 6-1, 6-0 victory at No. 4.
Taborga and Patrocinio each picked up wins by default at No. 5 and No. 6 singles. Emmanuel's lone point came at No. 1 singles following an opponent retirement.
Augusta improves to 2-2 overall with the win.
Next up: The Jaguars will face Texas A&M University–Kingsville on Thursday, Feb. 26 at 1:00 p.m. in Milledgeville, Ga.
