FLORENCE, S.C. – The Augusta University men's tennis team earned a 4-3 non-conference victory over Francis Marion on Saturday afternoon at the Kassab Courts. The Jaguars improve to 3-4 on the season.
Augusta claimed the doubles point with wins at No. 3 and No. 1. Alexis Bailhache and Tommy Matsumine secured a 6-2 victory at No. 3, followed by a 6-3 win from Alejandro Carbonell and Humberto Pinto at No. 1. The No. 2 doubles match featuring Arthur Valette and David Perret was tied 4-4 when play was halted.
In singles, the Jaguars picked up three wins to clinch the match. Valette delivered a strong 6-3, 6-1 win at No. 2 singles. Pinto rallied after dropping the first set to defeat Koldo Zuniga 3-6, 6-2, 6-2 at No. 5. Enzo Sakiyama added a straight-set victory at No. 6, winning 6-3, 7-5.
Francis Marion earned points at No. 1, No. 3, and No. 4 singles. David Perret fell 7-5, 6-2 at the top spot, while Bailhache was edged in a three-set battle at No. 3. Alejandro Carbonell dropped a 7-5, 6-3 decision at No. 4.
With the win, Augusta moves to 3-4 overall as the Jaguars continue non-conference play.
