Quinasia Abercrombie scored 21 points and grabbed 15 rebounds but it was not enough as no. 19 Columbus St. knocked off Augusta University 73-64 Wednesday night at Christenberry Fieldhouse. The Jaguars are now 9-5 in Peach Belt Conference play and 14-7 overall. The Cougars improve to 12-2 in conference place and 18-3 overall.
Columbus State forced 29 Augusta turnovers with many of them in the opening quarter as the Cougars ran out to a 21-10 lead after the opening quarter. The Jaguars would play even in the second quarter and would trail by nine at the half.
AU did make a run late in the third quarter. A
Sierra Burns three-pointer cut the lead to 56-48. A few moments later
Sa'Niah Dorsey would hit a three making it just a five point game as it was 58-53 after three quarters. But that was as close as the Jaguars would get as Columbus State would extend the lead back to double-digits and cruised home for the win.
Dorsey finished with 11 points for AU while
Amari Jackson had 10 and three rebounds.
For the game, Augusta shot 41% while Columbus shot just 38% but hit nine three-pointers to AU's one. The Cougars also tallied 28 points off turnovers to just eight points for Augusta.
The Jaguars will next be in action Saturday afternoon when they travel to Georgia College with tip-off scheduled for 1:30 p.m.
